Home turf, both trades

Our shop is in central Tucson — the crew isn't driving in from across the valley to reach you. Ron Arenas started the company in 2001; about a decade ago the family added plumbing, so Tucson homeowners could call one company instead of juggling two contractors for AC, heating, and plumbing.

Tucson's monsoon season pushes dust into ductwork and coils every summer, and the valley's hard tap water works scale into water heaters and fixtures year-round. We watch for both on every visit — an AC tune-up isn't complete without a look at what the dust did to your filter, and a plumbing call isn't complete without checking what the water's done to your fixtures.

Plumbing in older central Tucson homes

In an older central Tucson home, start with the pipe material, not just the home's age. Copper supply lines can develop pinhole leaks from water chemistry. Older sewer laterals may be clay or cast iron. These are different parts of the plumbing: a leaking supply line and a backed-up drain need different answers.

If you've had previous leaks, tell us where they happened and whether the same section was repaired more than once. Keep any repair records or sewer video from when you bought the house. Ask for evidence of the pipe's condition before deciding between another repair and broader replacement; the age of the house alone isn't that evidence.

For a recurring sewer problem, ask what the camera shows rather than assuming the whole lateral needs replacing. The price goes in writing before work starts.

What old plumbing repair records can tell you

When reviewing records for an older Tucson home, separate supply-pipe repairs from sewer-lateral work. A copper pinhole repair tells you about the water-supply side; it does not establish the condition of a clay or cast-iron lateral. Likewise, a sewer repair does not tell you whether the copper supply lines have been replaced.

Look for dates, locations and the material named on each invoice. If an old record says only "plumbing replaced," ask which line and how much of it. For an earlier sewer scope, check which stretch was inspected and whether repairs followed. Use those records as background, not proof of the pipes' condition today.
