Rooftop AC replacement in northwest Tucson

Old unit out. New unit craned in. Done right on the roof.

A northwest Tucson homeowner needed a new rooftop system in the middle of a Tucson summer. We measured first, craned the new unit onto the roof, re-fit the ductwork to match, and sealed and coated the curb so the roof stays as tight as the house stays cool.

What we did

How we did it

01

Measure before we sell.

We came out first to measure the roof, the duct openings and the old unit, so the new system and every transition were sized to this house, not guessed from a model number.

02

Crane it in.

Out came the old package unit. A crane set the new 4-ton gas/electric unit on the roof, and we built new transitions to tie it into the existing supply and return ducts.

03

Seal it, test it, finish it.

New fused disconnect, surge protector and a smart thermostat. We started the system up, verified the refrigerant level and adjusted the airflow, then sealed the curb and coated it white to match the roof. A separate quality-control visit followed a week later.
