Why "how much do plumbers charge per hour" is the wrong question

Search around and you'll find a lot of hourly numbers thrown out for Tucson plumbers. The problem is that an hourly rate doesn't tell you what a repair actually costs — a 20-minute fix and a 2-hour fix both start the clock the same way, and you don't find out which one you got until the invoice.

What it actually costs to get a plumber out

For a residential plumbing issue, our diagnostic fee is $89, waived if you move forward with the repair. That covers one of our plumbers coming to your home, assessing the problem, and walking you through what they found — the repair options, a flat written price if it's straightforward, or what further testing would take if it isn't. If you decline the repair and have not authorized any additional testing or services, you pay the $89 diagnostic fee. Any additional testing is explained and priced in writing for your approval before it starts.

When it's time to actually call a plumber

Most plumbing problems don't announce themselves with a flood. They show up as something smaller first. Here's what to watch for — and one thing that isn't a "watch for," it's a "call now": if you've got uncontrolled leaking or sewage backing into the home, that needs immediate action, not a spot on next week's schedule.

Your water pressure changes out of nowhere

If pressure throughout the whole house suddenly drops or spikes, check with a neighbor first — Tucson Water does adjust pressure on the municipal side from time to time, and when that happens it shows up on the whole block, not just your house. If neighbors aren't seeing the same change, have your home's pressure and supply checked to locate the cause. High static pressure and failing pressure regulators are common Tucson plumbing issues; leaving them unaddressed can damage fixtures and piping.

Any leak, even a small one
