Sometimes, you need to reach out and ask a friend or loved one for a helping hand. Maybe you bit off more than you could chew, and you were in over your head. Maybe you need some else’s expertise, or maybe you just need more manpower. No matter what the circumstances are, there’s no shame in asking for help when you need it. Now, what if we told you that this mindset actually apples to your heater too?

Your HVAC in Tucson, AZ is going to need some help from time to time. Most of the time, this just manifests as annual maintenance services. Other times though, you might need to familiarize yourself with some best practices regarding your heater. We’re here to help with this.

Help Your Heater Help You

Here are a few things you can do to help your heater out this winter:

1. Schedule Furnace Maintenance

One thing that makes a huge difference in your home’s heating is maintenance work. You should schedule an appointment for maintenance once every year in the fall. Maintenance is the best way to ensure that your heater is primed, ready to work, and ready to perform for years to come after that. Furnace maintenance is like a good stretch and pep talk before the race. Don’t skip out on this! It makes a significant difference.

2. Add a Humidifier

Sometimes the discomfort you’re facing isn’t even the direct fault of your heater. Sometimes it’s your heater and your home’s humidity (or lack thereof) combined. Running your heater all the time can dry your home out, and a dry home equates to a home that feels colder. Humidifiers balance your home’s humidity and make you feel warmer. The more humidity in the air, the warmer you’re going to feel.

3. Swap Out the HVAC Filter

You should swap out your home’s HVAC filter at least once every few months. Your filter sets a great foundation for your home heating. A clean filter prevents your home’s heater from getting dirty. A dirty heater won’t perform well.

4. Make Sure You Insulate

If your home’s insulation isn’t up to par, you’re not going to be able to keep your home warm for long. A home without the proper amount of insulation is going to have the warm air that’s generated seep right out. The warm air will slip between cracks, underneath the door, or pass the gaps in your window. Better insulation will help you get your home warm and keep it that way.

5. Let in Some Light

The easiest way to warm up your home with little effort is by opening up your home’s blinds, curtains, etc. Letting in a little natural light is going to help make your home warmer without putting more strain on your home’s heater. This means that you’re going to be a lot more comfortable and have lower energy bills. Make sure you get in the practice of doing this daily.
