Is My Plumbing Problem an Emergency?

broken-pipe-leaking-water

When you think of a plumbing emergency, perhaps you picture a drenched homeowner and a broken pipe gushing like a fire hose. Or perhaps you imagine something we’d rather not describe in detail flooding your bathroom from the toilet. If you have a plumbing concern that’s not quite a watery explosion—but is still very worrisome—you might wonder if it’s really worth calling for emergency repairs.

We’ll give you some pointers that will help you make that decision. But the first thing to keep in mind is that if you have a serious concern, it’s always better to get help right away. Plumbing issues are not just about your plumbing. When water is leaking, it can cause a lot of damage to other structures in your home, so prompt plumbing repairs can save you from larger repairs to things like your subfloor.

Emergency: Flooding

If there is water leaking in an uncontrollable way from any pipe or fixture in your home, even if it’s not spraying like a fire hydrant, it’s an emergency. Shut off the water at the fixture if you can. If not, you can shut off the valve where the water main connects to your home. This will be located on an inside wall, on the side of your home closest to the well, or to the street if you are on municipal water. Then call for emergency plumbing repair in Marana, AZ, and mop or towel up as much water as you can while you wait for your plumber.

Emergency: Frozen Pipes

If, during a severe cold snap, you notice your water slowing to a trickle or stopping entirely, it may be a case of a frozen pipe. Because water expands as it freezes, this frozen pipe is at severe risk of bursting. Don’t try to thaw it yourself, which is unsafe and can speed up the bursting. Call for emergency plumbing service right away.

Emergency: No Water

You might be able to solve this one on your own. First, check that shut-off valve to your water line. Perhaps someone inadvertently shut it off. Second, check with your water department. A break in the main or other major issue might have interrupted the flow. But if all seems well with both of those, it’s time for emergency plumbing repairs.

Emergency: It’s Personal

It’s a very common occurrence for people to lose precious items down drains. From wedding rings to first lost baby teeth, we’ve seen it all. If you drop something in the sink or shower, first, stop using the water there. Second, call us to retrieve your irreplaceable item. We’ll be honored to reunite you with your treasure.

If you’re still not sure whether what you’re experiencing is truly an emergency, please reach out to us. We’d be happy to help you assess the severity of the problem and get you scheduled for whatever help you do need.
